Imams Gang-Raped and Killed 12-yr-old Inside Mosque

BADIN: The cleric of a local mosque reportedly killed a 12-year-old girl after sexually assaulting her along with three accomplices, local media reported on Sunday. According to reports, the girl was at the seminary for religious studies when Maulvi Ghulam Murtaza dismissed the class and asked her to stay back.

Imam Murtaza then reportedly called three other men and the four of them gang raped the girl in one of the rooms in the mosque. They then strangled her in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime.

After the family received information about what had happened, they rushed to the mosque to rescue her but it was too late. Doctors confirmed she was killed after a violent sexual assault. Following the doctor’s confirmation, police arrested the cleric and registered a case against him. The other three men are on the run.

In another incident in Shujahabad, a traffic warden identified as Akhtar allegedly raped a 22-year-old woman after tricking her into believe he would marry her. The civil hospital’s medical report confirmed it was sexual assault. Police registered a case but the accused remains at large.

PAKISTANI GANG-RAPE VICTIM DIES AFTER SELF-IMMOLATION PROTEST

The victim of a gang-rape in Pakistan died Friday after setting herself on fire in protest against a police report that led to the release of a key suspect, a doctor and her brother said. College student Amina Bibi died after dousing herself with petrol and setting it alight Thursday outside a police station near Muzaffargarh, in the Punjab.

"She was under our treatment but she succumbed to her wounds on Friday morning," said Muhammad Usman, a local doctor.

The police decision to release the main suspect had been too much for Bibi to handle, her brother said. "She was already depressed after going through the trauma, but after the release of the accused, she lost all hope of getting justice and set herself on fire," Ghulam Shabir said.

Bibi was raped by five men as she walked home from her college on Jan. 5, he added. "I was with her when five men kidnapped her at gunpoint and took her away," he said. "I couldn't do anything because they were armed."

Police said they would revisit the case following the death. "It seems the case had not been properly investigated," said senior police officer Chaudhry Asghar. "We have suspended the investigation officer, Rana Zulfiqar, and placed him in detention."

Rape and other forms of sexual assault and domestic violence are widespread in Islamic Republic of Pakistan and such public acts of desperation by abused women are quite common now.
